This beginning oil painting set is a remarkable value and a wonderful gift for older students. The kit includes tubes of oil paint, and sticks of oil pastels….the traditional materials for learning how to paint in oils. This set includes:
- three small oil painting boards – 6″ by 9″ each
- six 12ml oil colors – red, ultramarine blue, lemon yellow, black, white and burnt umber
- 12 oils pastel sticks in assorted colors
- one round and one flat bristle brush
- a palette knife
- a 6-well palette for mixing paints
- a graphite pencil
- a metal sharpener for the pencil
- and a white eraser
The materials are conveniently organized in an attractive metal box, 13.5″ by 7″ by 1″ thick.
Use this small kit as a one-time-only exploration into oil painting (and simply use up all the materials). To use the materials over several lessons, you will need a brush cleaner to preserve the two paint brushes. An appropriate solvent such as Turpentine, Turpenoid or Mineral Spirits are available at your local hardware or art supply store, if not already in your own paint supply cupboard. There’s plenty of paint and oil pastel to create many more paintings on other canvas surfaces.
Please note that this product is NOT labeled AP or CP non-toxic. The label features the ASTM D-4236 code and notes that the item is not suitable for children under age 3. KidsArt would additionally recommend that oil painting is suitable for kids age 12 or older, and only with adult supervision and discussion on the safe use of art products.
