Use this charcoal assortment to create rich black & white drawings, to sketch and layout before painting, or to blend with pastel chalks. For a dramatic effect, use the charcoal white pencil and stick alone on black or dark colored paper. Use a textured paper, either white or with a tan color, drawing with black charcoals then adding highlights with the charcoal white. Make your own paper stump (called a tortillon) by rolling a piece of soft, thick paper into a tight tube. Use the blunt end of this paper stump to smudge and blend the charcoal marks.
Each activity teaches a process, a technique or a specific skill…but leaves the final artwork undefined. Children are free to create art of their own choosing. There is no right or wrong way for the art ideas in this book to turn out. There is only each child artist’s way, bounded only by the imagination of the child, and judged only by his or her satisfaction.
]]>KidsArt art teaching booklets bring you 16 reproducible pages of hands-on art activities. The projects are simple, innovative and easy to use in home or classroom settings. Because the activities are open-ended, teaching the process rather than a specific product or end result, they can be used with many different ages and stages of development, from preschool through middle school.
